Playing Time Expectations By Grade

Below are the guidelines as set forth by the PGBA By laws for playing time by grade

3rd Grade

Playing time shall be essentially equal for all players through all games in all tournaments, league games, or other playing circumstances. This means essentially equal time in each half of every game for every player. 

4th Grade

 Playing time shall be essentially equal for all players through each half of all games played in a league defined by the Board of Directors, or in tournaments participated in prior to January 1 st of each operating year. After January 1 st of each operating year, participation is allowed to be modified to allow Coaches to determine additional playing time based upon merit or circumstance for players chosen by the Coach in the final ten percent (10%) of each half of each game. Outside of that time period in each half of each game, playing time shall remain essentially equal.

5th Grade

Playing time shall be essentially equal for all players through each half of all games played in a league defined by the Board of Directors, or in tournaments participated in prior to January 1 st of each operating year. After January 1st of each operating year, a minimum participation level for each player is defined by the following formula…

(i) For teams with ten (10) players or less 1. With an 18 minute running clock, each player shall play no less than 3.5 minutes per half. 2. With a 14 minute stopped clock, each player shall play no less than 2.5 minutes per half.

(ii) For teams with more than ten (10) players 1. With an 18 minute running clock, each player shall play no less than 2.5 minutes per half. 2. With a 14 minute stopped clock, each player shall play no less than 2 minutes per half. (iii)For games with some other timing, the Coach shall adjust to maintain proportionate playing time. 

6th Grade

The minimum participation level for each player is defined by the following formula…

(i) For teams with ten (10) players or less 1. With an 18 minute running clock, each player shall play no less than 3.5 minutes per half. 2. With a 14 minute stopped clock, each player shall play no less than 2.5 minutes per half.

(ii) For teams with more than ten (10) players 1. With an 18 minute running clock, each player shall play no less than 2.5 minutes per half. -30- 2. With a 14 minute stopped clock, each player shall play no less than 2 minutes per half. (iii)For games with some other timing, the Coach shall adjust to maintain proportionate playing time
